More and more we are seeing OSP networks turn fully fiber optic with the deployment of systems such as FTTx and Small Cell. Also, Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial networks are implementing a greater percentage of fiber optic solutions. The rapid deployment and evolution of these fiber optic systems has created a greater demand for organized and concise fiber splicing documentation. Why is this so critical?

The Importance of Accurate and Current Splicing Documentation

  • Allows for more accurate and efficient design solutions

  • Bill of Materials and Scopes of Work can be more precisely generated for each project

  • Aides in the determination of headend port availability, multiplexing solutions, and open/spare fibers for customer assignment

  • Eases the compilation of affected traffic during construction

  • Limits the amount of time customers are down during outages and maintenance

Common Programs Used

  • AutoCAD

  • Bentley Comms

  • SpatialNET

  • Excel

Above are a few of the common programs used for fiber optic splicing documentation all of which have their pros and cons. All advantages and disadvantages should be considered when choosing a program that best suits your company’s needs.
